Switzerland is said to have been founded on the Rütli in 1291 on a picturesque meadow by Lake Lucerne. According to tradition, representatives of the original cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Obwalden took the Rütli oath here. In doing so, they rebelled against the claims of the Habsburgs

On the other side of the headland you come to the Rütli meadow. In summer, a first experience awaits you on the way to the mountains. Five of the mountain railroads in the Lucerne - Lake Lucerne Region alone are particularly spectacular These include:

• Pilatus: the steepest cogwheel railroad in the world has been going up Pilatus since 1889. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

• Melchsee-Frutt with 36 km of slopes and 16 ski lifts

Melchsee-Frutt offers the longest toboggan run with a length of 8 km. The Mythenpark is an absolute must for freestylers. It is located on a sunny slope along the Grossboden-Brünnelistock ski lift for about 500 meters.
