Château-d'Oex is located 22 km east of Vevey and lies at 958 m above sea level. The village with about 3500 inhabitants extends in a valley widening of the Pays-d'Enhaut slightly elevated above the valley of the Saane in the Vaud Alps. Château-d'Oex includes numerous hamlets, vacation settlements, alpine settlements and individual farms.
