The Walensee, with its dramatic surroundings, resembles a Norwegian fjord. It is located in Heidiland and is bounded to the north by the steeply rising Churfirsten mountain range, a popular hiking paradise. Lake Walen boasts crystal-clear waters that allow for visibility of up to 24 meters due to the cool temperatures.
You can reach the car-free village of Quinten in the northern part of the lake by boat, where a Mediterranean climate fosters wine production. It's perfect for a family outing.
Thundering waterfalls cascade down at Lake Walen, with the Seerenbach Falls standing at 600 meters high, making them among the most impressive waterfalls in Europe.
Hiking trails around Lake Walen can be quite challenging. However, you can combine them with boat trips. In some areas, it's possible to take an e-scooter ride at Lake Walen. Or you can pair an e-bike ride with a boat trip on the lake.
In summer, you can swim at several spots around the lake. The Walensee is known for its cleanliness. The most popular swimming areas include Betlis, Gäsi, Weesen, and Lago Mio.
