Description
From Zermatt, you take about 40 minutes up to 3821 meters above sea level to Europe's highest mountain railway station. Your ticket is valid for both the ascent and descent. At the stations along the way, you can freely board and leave on the day of booking.
The price includes entry to the glacier palace and the 3S Info-Cube at the Dry Steg. Here, you can learn more about the 3S cable car project. The glacier palace features beautiful handcrafted ice sculptures. In the cinema lounge, you can watch films about snow and ice worlds as well as mountain climbing.

- Zermatt (Valley station)
- Furi - first intermediate station, at approximately 1867 meters above sea level
- Trockener Steg - important intermediate station at approximately 2939 meters above sea level. From here, you can see the Theodul Glacier.
- Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (Klein Matterhorn) – final station at approximately 3821 meters above sea level.

If you're arriving by bus, get off at the "Zermatt, Matterhorn valley station" bus stop. You can look up the timetable on the SBB website or app.

Dogs travel free on the cable car. Generally, they must be on a leash, and it is advisable to bring a muzzle in case it is required.
Important Information
- Check the timetable on the day of travel to make sure you catch the last descent. We recommend starting the ascent by 2:00 PM at the latest.
- The ticket must be exchanged at the ticket office.
- If the onsite display indicates the lift is closed, contact the staff to find out if there is an alternative route available.
- If an alternative route is offered, refunds are not possible.
- Refund requests submitted later can only be considered if a written confirmation states that the lift was closed all day and travel was not possible.
- 29.09.-31.10.2025 Matterhorn Glacier Ride I (3S gondola) maintenance: operation during this period with a shuttle lift.
- From 12.-30.01.2026, the passenger lifts to the viewing platform are closed due to maintenance.
- From 02.-27.02.2026, the Glacier Palace is closed for renovations.

Was told the place would be closed before we got there. No where did it say last trip time before closure. Lost over 200 CHF or 500 CND. No being told no refunds.
Dear John, thank you very much for your feedback. Your ticket was valid for the entire day on November 29, 2025. The timetable should be checked on the day of travel via the SBB website. If the display on-site shows that the cable car is closed, staff can be asked whether an alternative connection is available. If an alternative connection is available, a refund is excluded. Retroactive refunds can only be reviewed if written confirmation is provided stating that the cable car was closed for the entire day and travel was not possible.
