Heiden is a village in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, perched on a scenic terrace above Lake Constance. Most of the buildings in the village centre date back to the 19th century, reconstructed after a major fire largely destroyed the town in 1838. Landmarks like the Protestant church and several rows of neoclassical houses give the village a cohesive look. Known as a health resort, Heiden benefits from its elevated position, offering a mild, invigorating climate. Walking and hiking trails lead from the village terrace to viewpoints overlooking the lake and the Appenzell region.
