Burgdorf is a small town in the Emmental region of the canton of Bern, considered the gateway to the area. The town’s character is defined by the elevated Burgdorf Castle, the town church, and the well-preserved old town with its upper and lower quarters. Along the Emme river, you'll find bridges, riverside paths, and former industrial zones that hark back to its manufacturing past. In the narrow streets of the upper town, you'll see arcades, historic façades, and squares offering views over the town and surrounding countryside. After a short distance from the compact town centre, you enter the hilly landscape of the Emmental, with fields, forests, and scattered farms.
