The Muota is a wild mountain river in central Switzerland, approximately 30 km long. It originates at Sahliboden from the confluence of several source streams. After being dammed at Salisee, it flows through the Muotatal, picking up numerous tributaries and passing through villages like Muotathal and Ried. Along the way, it cuts through narrow gorges and is used for power generation. At Illgau, it bends westward, reaches Ibach, and finally flows into Lake Lucerne at Brunnen. Its catchment area covers 316 km² with high precipitation levels and steep gradients. The Muota is a popular destination for white-water paddlers.
