Cugnasco Canyoning for Experienced Adventurers at Lake Maggiore

This canyoning tour in Cugnasco is designed for sporty people who want to experience a varied gorge with distinctive abseiling spots. You can expect wild waterfalls, deep sections, lush vegetation, and natural rock formations in a remote setting.

In the canyon, you'll encounter several technical challenges, optional jumps and slides, and abseils up to 30 meters. The gorge offers an intense nature experience and is located between Bellinzona, Locarno, and Ascona on Lake Maggiore.

Thanks to its large catchment area, the canyon often still carries water even when other gorges in Ticino are dry. This creates an impressive water adventure in a wild and peaceful landscape.

Practical information:

• Remove jewelry and avoid wearing cotton fabrics
• For glasses wearers: contact lenses or a glasses strap, waterproof case
• Not suitable if you have back or joint problems

• Hypoallergenic neoprene suit (2-piece; pants and jacket) with hood
• Canyoning shoes and hypoallergenic neoprene socks
• Canyoning harness and two self-locking devices with screw-lock carabiners
• Rock impact-tested helmet

• Swimwear (swim trunks, swimsuit, bikini)
• Towel
• For the ascent and colder weather or if you generally feel cold, you can wear snug functional underwear,
• ski base layers, or similar that you can also wear under the wetsuit. IMPORTANT: They should be made of synthetic fiber or merino wool (not cotton, as it cools rather than warms).
• A change of clothes for after the tour
• Any necessary medication (asthma inhaler, allergy meds, etc.)
• Food/drinks for before and after
• Sunscreen (waterproof)

The Cugnasco Gorge is well known for its awesome abseiling spots. You can abseil here from heights of up to 35 meters — sometimes even right through the waterfalls.
