Bernina railway ticket route

The highest railway line over the Alps takes you from Chur or St. Moritz to Tirano in Italy. The train route passes spectacularly through the Alps: it goes through wild romantic gorges, impressive structures like the Landwasser Viaduct, up to the glaciers and back down to the palms in Italian Tirano. Expect an unforgettable journey through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges.

The train reaches its highest point at the Bernina Pass in Ospizio Bernina (2253 m above sea level). It is the highest station of the Rhaetian Railway.

On this route, the Bernina Express panorama train also operates. This ticket is valid for both regular Rhaetian Railway trains and the Bernina Express panorama train. However, note that a seat reservation is mandatory for travel on the Bernina Express.

This ticket alone does not grant you access to the Bernina Express panorama train. However, the regular trains run on the same route, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery just the same.

• Suitable for wheelchairs, strollers, and dogs
• For the use of the Bernina Express panorama train, a reservation is also required.

• The trains and buses of RhB are increasingly equipped with low-floor entryways (indicated as NF in the timetable).
• The SBB Handicap Call Centre arranges assistance for RhB passengers transferring, where platforms have not yet been raised and floors have not been levelled. It helps you prepare for barrier-free travel or if you need help while on the move.

• Bringing small dogs up to 30 cm is free of charge if they stay in a transport container throughout the journey. This must be placed under your seat.
• Dogs without a container and all dogs from 30 cm shoulder height require a valid dog ticket: half-price of second class or the minimum fare (dog day pass, dog passport). They must sit under the seat to prevent blocking the passage for other travelers.

• This ticket does not include a mandatory reservation for the Bernina Express panoramic train! If you wish to travel on the Bernina Express panoramic train, you must additionally reserve your seat. Otherwise, the ticket is only valid on regional trains on this route, but not on the panoramic train.
• A subsequent refund of this ticket is not possible if you do not have a seat reservation.
