Bernina railway ticket route

The highest railway line across the Alps takes you from Chur or St. Moritz to Tirano in Italy. The route spectacularly winds through the Alps: passing wild romantic gorges, impressive structures like the Landwasser Viaduct, ascending to glaciers and descending again to the palm trees in Italian Tirano. Expect an exceptional journey through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges.

The train reaches its highest point at the Bernina Pass in Ospizio Bernina (2253 m.a.s.l.). It is the highest station of the Rhaetian Railway.

On this route, the Bernina Express panoramic train also operates. This ticket is valid on both regular Rhaetian Railway trains and the Bernina Express panoramic train. Please note, however, that a seat reservation is mandatory for travel on the Bernina Express.

This ticket alone does not give you access to the Bernina Express panoramic train. However, the regular trains run on the same route, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery just as much.

• The trains and buses of the RhB increasingly feature low-floor entrances (marked with NF in the timetable).
• The SBB Call Centre for Accessibility organises assistance for RhB transfers where platforms are not yet raised and floors are not yet level. It helps you prepare for accessible travel or provides support when you need help on the go.

• Bringing small dogs up to 30 cm is free of charge if they stay in a transport container throughout the journey. This container must be stowed under your seat.
• Dogs without a container and all dogs taller than 30 cm at the shoulder require a valid dog ticket: half-price for second class or the minimum fare (dog day pass, dog passport). They must sit under the seat so as not to block the aisle for other passengers.

• This ticket does not include a compulsory reservation for the Bernina Express panoramic train! If you wish to travel on the Bernina Express panoramic train, you must additionally reserve a seat. Otherwise, the ticket is only valid on the regional trains on this route but not on the panoramic train.
• A subsequent refund of this ticket is not possible if you do not have a seat reservation.
