Description

The Bernina Express panorama train also runs on this route. This ticket is valid on both the regular trains of the Rhaetian Railway and the Bernina Express panorama train. However, keep in mind that a seat reservation is mandatory if you want to travel on the Bernina Express.

This ticket alone does not grant you access to the Bernina Express panorama train. However, the regular trains operate on the same route, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful panorama just as well.

Bernina Route

The highest railway line across the Alps takes you from Chur or St. Moritz all the way to Tirano in Italy. The route winds spectacularly through the Alps: it passes enchanting gorges, impressive structures like the Landwasser Viaduct, climbs up to glaciers, and then descends again to the palm trees in Italian Tirano. You'll experience a unique journey crossing 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges.

The train reaches its highest point at the Bernina Pass in Ospizio Bernina (2,253 m above sea level). It is the highest railway station of the Rhaetian Railway.

Out and About with a Wheelchair

  • RhB trains and buses increasingly feature low-floor entrances (marked as LF in the timetable).
  • The SBB Callcenter Handicap arranges assistance for RhB when switching trains at stations where platforms haven’t been raised or floors aligned yet. It helps you prepare for barrier-free travel or provides support if you need help while on the move.

Out and about with the dog

  • Small dogs up to 30 cm can travel for free if they stay in a carrier container for the entire journey. This must be placed under your seat.
  • Dogs without a carrier and all dogs over 30 cm shoulder height require a valid dog ticket: half the price of 2nd class or at least the minimum fare (dog day pass, dog card). They must sit under the seat so the passage for other passengers is not blocked.
