Saver Day Pass SBB - starting at 29 CHF

With the SBB Saver Day Pass, you benefit from attractive discounts if you plan early. You can buy these allotted tickets up to 6 months in advance. They are valid on the selected day on the entire Swiss public transport network (GA area).

So during one day, until 5:00 am the following day, you travel freely throughout the country by boat, bus, streetcar, Postauto and train. Here are some ideas for which you can use the SBB Saver Day Pass:

• Excursion by train to one or more cities including use of local transport in the city such as bus, streetcar and Postbus.
• Trip by boat across Lake Thun or Lake Brienz.
• Trip by boat from Solothurn to Biel or across Lake Biel.
• Travel with the Glacier Express (or all other panorama trains) through Switzerland. Note that in some cases a mandatory seat reservation must be purchased.
• Trip to the Rigi or Stanserhorn. These two mountain railroads accept the SBB Saver Day Pass, but are an exception.
• Plan a day trip to the sunny Riviera of Ticino and enjoy a delicious ice cream.
• Take the train to the Swiss National Park, spend the day hiking and take the Postauto back to the train station.

Good news: You can get the Saver Day Pass for 29 CHF if you plan ahead. The Saver Day Passes are subject to a quota and can be booked 6 months in advance. As soon as the lowest price for a day is sold out, the next cheapest price becomes available. So it pays off to book early.

The prices from which the Saver Day Pass is available are as follows:

• With Swiss Half Fare Card: from 29 CHF in 2nd class.
• Without Swiss Half Fare Card: from 52 CHF in 2nd class
• With Swiss Half Fare Card: from 49 CHF in 1st class
• Without Swiss Half Fare Card: from 88 CHF in 1st class

We only recommend buying the Swiss Half Fare Card if you buy at least six Saver Day Passes or plan to buy connecting tickets for mountain railways more often. Otherwise, the price difference between the Saver Day Pass with or without Swiss Half Fare Card will not be relevant.

However, if you plan to use mountain railways, buying a Swiss Half Fare Card will pay off very quickly. Especially if you want to visit the Jungfraujoch it pays off to buy a Swiss Half Fare Card in combination with the SBB Saver Day Pass.

The SBB Saver Day Pass can be a substitute for the Swiss Travel Pass. Even if you don't have a Swiss Half Fare Card. The cheapest full-price day pass is 52 CHF and goes up to a maximum of 88 CHF.

The following table should help you to calculate up to which price a saver day ticket is cheaper than the Swiss Travel Pass (STP). We calculated with the prices in 2nd class without Swiss Half Fare Card. So if you find your required number of saver day tickets at an average price that is lower than the values in the table, it is not worth buying the Swiss Travel Pass.

So you see, the longer you are in Switzerland, the more worthwhile a Swiss Travel Pass is. However, if you want to use public transport between 3 and 6 days, buying SBB Saver Day Pass can be cheaper.

The Municipal Saver Day Pass is available at all ticket counters in Swiss municipalities and cities. It is issued either as a mobile or paper ticket. The availability of day passes can be checked at spartageskarte-gemeinde.ch.

Unlike the previous municipal day passes, the place of residence no longer plays a role. You can obtain the Municipal Saver Day Pass from any municipality in Switzerland.

In principle, the Municipal Saver Day Pass works in the same way as the SBB Saver Day Pass:

• It is personalised and non-transferable.
• It is valid on the day booked until 5.00 a.m. on the following day.
• It is valid on the entire Swiss public transport network. Just like the SBB Saver Day Pass.
• It can be purchased 6 months to one day in advance.
• The earlier you book, the cheaper the prices. The 1st price level is available up to a maximum of ten days before the day of travel, the 2nd price level is available up to a maximum of one day before the day of travel.

If you are travelling with children between the ages of 6 and 15.99, we recommend that you buy a Day Pass for Children. This costs CHF 19 and is cheaper than the Saver Day Pass.

This day pass does not entitle you to a discount on the mountain railways in Switzerland (except Stanserhorn and Rigi). This means that you cannot travel more cheaply on the following mountain railways around Interlaken: Harder Kulm, Schynige Platte, Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald First and Schilthorn.

However, you can use the day pass as far as Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and Wengen and buy your ticket to the mountain summit from there.

• Note that this ticket cannot be canceled or changed! Once you complete the booking, no modifications can be made. So, make sure to check that the travel date, birthday, and names of the travelers are correct before booking.
• This ticket is personal and non-transferable.
• Please check the schedule on the travel day through the SBB website or app.
