With the Saver Day Pass for public transport, you can take advantage of great discounts when you plan ahead. You can purchase these limited-availability tickets up to 6 months in advance. They are valid on the chosen day across the entire Swiss public transport network (GA area).
This means you can travel freely throughout the country by boat, bus, tram, postbus, and train from the start of the chosen day until 5:00 AM the next day. Here are some ideas on how you can use the Saver Day Pass for public transport:
You can get the saver day pass for public transport for 29 francs if you plan early enough. These saver day passes are limited and can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Once the lowest price for a day is sold out, the next best price will become available. So booking early is definitely worth it.
The prices at which the saver day pass is available are as follows:
We recommend buying the Swiss Half Fare Card only if you purchase or plan to purchase at least six saver day passes or frequently buy connecting tickets for mountain railways. Otherwise, the price difference between the saver day pass with or without the Swiss Half Fare Card usually isn’t worth it.
Tip: If you plan to travel on mountain railways, buying a Swiss Half Fare Card quickly pays off. Especially if you want to visit Jungfraujoch, buying the Swiss Half Fare Card alongside using the saver day pass is definitely worthwhile.
Saver day tickets can be an alternative to the Swiss Travel Pass, even if you don't have a Swiss Half Fare Card. The cheapest full-price day ticket costs 52 CHF and can go up to a maximum of 88 CHF.
The table below helps you calculate up to which price a saver day ticket is cheaper than the Swiss Travel Pass (STP). The calculations are based on second-class fares without the Swiss Half Fare Card. So, if you find the number of saver day tickets you need at an average price below the values in the table, buying the Swiss Travel Pass is not worth it.
| Number of Days | STP (per day) | STP Flex (per day) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 77 CHF | 89 CHF |
| 4 | 70 CHF | 81 CHF |
| 6 | 60 CHF | 64 CHF |
| 8 | 48 CHF | 51 CHF |
| 15 | 28 CHF | 30 CHF |
So, the longer you stay in Switzerland, the more worthwhile a Swiss Travel Pass becomes. However, if you plan to use public transport for between 3 and 6 days, buying saver day tickets may be cheaper.
The community saver day ticket is available at all counters in Swiss municipalities and cities. It is issued either as a mobile ticket or a paper ticket. You can check the availability of day tickets at spartageskarte-gemeinde.ch.
Unlike previous community day tickets, your place of residence no longer matters. You can get the community saver day ticket from any municipality in Switzerland.
Basically, the community saver day ticket works the same way as the saver day ticket for public transport:
| Class and Segment | Price Level 1 | Price Level 2 |
|---|---|---|
| 2nd class with half-fare card | 39 CHF | 59 CHF |
| 2nd class without half-fare card | 52 CHF | 88 CHF |
| 1st class with half-fare card | 66 CHF | 99 CHF |
| 1st class without half-fare card | 88 CHF | 148 CHF |
If you’re travelling with children aged between 6 and 15.99 years, we recommend buying a child day ticket. It costs 19 CHF and is cheaper than the saver day ticket.
This day ticket does not give you a discount on mountain railways in Switzerland (except for Stanserhorn and Rigi). Around Interlaken, you won’t travel cheaper on the following mountain railways: Harder Kulm, Schynige Platte, Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald First, and Schilthorn.
However, you can use the day ticket up to Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, and Wengen, and then buy your ticket from there to the mountain summit.
