Bernina Route
The highest railway line across the Alps takes you from Chur or St. Moritz to Tirano in Italy. The railway line spectacularly traverses the Alps: it passes through wild and romantic gorges, impressive structures like the Landwasser Viaduct, up to the glaciers, and back down to the palm trees in Italian Tirano. You can look forward to a unique journey through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges.
The train reaches its highest point at the Bernina Pass in Ospizio Bernina (2,253 m above sea level). This station is the highest one on the Rhaetian Railway.
This route is also served by the Bernina Express panoramic train. This ticket is valid on both the regular trains of the Rhaetian Railway and the Bernina Express panoramic train. However, note that you must have a seat reservation for a ride on the Bernina Express.
This ticket alone does not grant you access to the Bernina Express panoramic train. The regular trains operate on the same route, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery just the same.

Out and About with a Wheelchair
- The trains and buses of the RhB now have more low-floor entrances (marked as NF in the timetable).
- The SBB Callcenter Handicap provides assistance for the RhB when changing trains where platforms are not yet elevated and floors are not yet level. It helps you prepare for barrier-free travel or if you need help while you're on the way.
Out and about with the dog
- Taking small dogs up to 30 cm is free, as long as they stay in a transport container the whole time. This must be placed under your seat.
- Dogs without a container and all dogs over 30 cm shoulder height need a valid dog ticket: half the price of a second-class ticket or the minimum fare (dog day ticket, dog pass). They must sit under the seat to ensure that other travelers' passage is not blocked.

We had the misfortune to wait to return to Tirano for more than two hours because one of the trains broke down. Otherwise, beautiful landscapes, but some trains break down. And you have to wait for hours until you reach your destination. That's in addition to the fact that you paid quite a large amount for such a trip.
