Stein AR is located in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden on a slight but panoramic hill. The municipality also includes numerous individual farms and scattered settlements. The rivers Sitter and Urnäsch flow around the village. Stein is famous for the Appenzell show dairy located here. An experience tour of the cheese dairy is particularly aimed at families.
