Description

On the Detective Trail, follow Detective Badger through historic Diessenhofen and along the Rhine. This 4 km treasure hunt takes you through medieval lanes and past magnificent half-timbered houses. Along the way, solve riddles using clues from your surroundings. You’ll also discover the history and culture of this protected townscape.

The route takes you to the covered wooden bridge, the Siegel Tower, Unterhof Castle and St Katharinental Monastery. You’ll also find out about Schwaderloch and the Kyburgs. Combine the correct answers to work out a four-digit code for the treasure chest. The trail ends at Restaurant Unterhof, where you can choose a small gift.

Practical information

  • Easy to moderate difficulty
  • Children aged around 8 and over can usually solve the riddles on their own; children aged 6 and over can do so with some help
  • There are picnic and barbecue spots by the Rhine at checkpoint ten
  • Optional: bring a picnic or food to grill
  • You can also travel by boat from Schaffhausen
  • The railway station is a 15-minute walk from the finish; the boat landing is just a few metres away

How the Detective Trail works

Once you’ve booked, you’ll receive the treasure map as a PDF with your booking confirmation. Print it out before setting off and bring a pen. Illustrated directions will guide you from one checkpoint to the next. The correct answers reveal the code for the treasure chest. If you can’t access the chest, the gift will be sent to you within Switzerland or Liechtenstein. If you get stuck on a riddle, you can reveal the answer. If the weather is poor, you can move the trail to another day.
