"Family Scavenger Hunt" Detective Trail in Basel Old Town

The detective trail turns the historic Basel Old Town into a playground for families. On the 4 km route, you follow illustrated directions and search for clues on site. Varied puzzles guide you step-by-step to the four-digit solution code.

Along the way, you’ll discover the Tinguely Fountain, Basel Minster, City Hall, and the Rhine Bridge. The route also passes Käppelijoch, the Hoosesagg Museum, and the Wall of Fame in Gerbergässlein. The trail ends at Läckerli Huus on Gerbergasse. There you open the treasure chest, choose a surprise, and sample Basel Läckerli.

You choose between the digital web app and a printable treasure map. The illustrated directions lead you from station to station. At each stop, you solve tasks using the clues on site.

From the correct answers, you form a four-digit code for the treasure chest. The web app and print version include hints for accessing the solutions. In bad weather, you can flexibly postpone the trail to another day.

This trail is not wheelchair accessible.

This trail is only partially stroller-friendly, as the route includes a long staircase.

Dogs are allowed on this trail. If the treasure chest is indoors, they may have to wait outside.
