Blatten near Naters is situated at about 1300 m above sea level on the Great Aletsch Glacier. The village is the starting point for various sports activities in summer as well as in winter. In Blatten bei Naters the access to the 600 m deep Massaschlucht starts at the Gibidum dam. The impressive rocky landscape was created by melt water and ice. The Massa Trail leads hikers along the gorge, which is very popular for canyoning adventures. In Blatten near Natters is the valley station of a cable car that leads up to Belalp. In just 30 min, hikers can reach the Aletschbord from the top station. This vantage point gives an overwhelming view of the Aletsch glacier. For the winter season, another gondola lift is used. Belalp includes about 60 km of ski slopes.
