Description

With this train ticket, you can travel from Interlaken Ost to Zermatt or from Zermatt to Interlaken Ost by express train. Among other things, you will travel directly along Lake Thun. Between Spiez and Visp, the route runs through the Lötschberg Base Tunnel. You can see the Bernese and Valais Alps passing by en route.

  • Interlaken Ost (start or finish)
  • Interlaken West
  • Spiez (transfer)
  • Visp (transfer)
  • Zermatt (start or finish)

The express train takes 3:10 hours for this route, including transfer time. Incidentally, between Visp and Zermatt you cover part of the Glacier Express route. And the section between Interlaken Ost and Spiez is part of the Golden Pass Express. So you can look forward to wonderful views on this route.

  • Dogs are not allowed on the route

Swiss Activities Tip

The best view is on the right-hand side coming from Interlaken. Here you have a direct view of Lake Thun as far as Spiez.

In Zermatt, you will find a special view of the Matterhorn at sunrise from the church steps in the village. The sun first appears at the summit and then appears to move down the east face of the Matterhorn.

On the road with a wheelchair

  • The MGB trains run with low-floor trains. SBB trains increasingly have low-floor entrances (marked NF in the timetable).
  • The SBB Callcenter Handicap organizes assistance when changing trains where platforms have not yet been raised and floors have not yet been adjusted. It helps you to prepare for barrier-free travel or if you need help en route.
