Description

The Gotthard Panorama Express takes you either from Lucerne to Lugano or from Lugano to Lucerne. You travel across Lake Lucerne with a steam or motor vessel.

Between Flüelen and Lugano, the train runs with extra-large panoramic windows. The panorama train operates on the historic railway line between Central Switzerland and Ticino. This includes various turnaround tunnels high up to Göschenen and further along the old Gotthard tunnel to Airolo.

On the train and on the ship, you can indulge in culinary delights. The menu features Swiss dishes and beverages. If you want to reserve a table at the restaurant on the ship, please contact the Lake Lucerne Shipping Company directly.

Traveling with a wheelchair

  • Please inform yourself about “SBB Handicap” before the trip
  • The panoramic train is not wheelchair accessible. It does not have wheelchair compartments or wheelchair-accessible toilets
  • Boarding and alighting are only possible at the stops Arth-Goldau, Flüelen, Bellinzona, and Lugano.
  • Passengers with limited mobility sit in regular seats; independent boarding and alighting must be possible or the wheelchair must be less than 620 mm wide.
  • Boarding and alighting with wheelchairs on the ship is straightforward.
  • Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available on the ship as well as in Arth-Goldau, Flüelen (platform 1), Bellinzona, and Lugano.

Traveling with Dog

  • Small dogs (up to 30 cm shoulder height, in transport containers) travel free of charge.
  • Larger dogs require a ticket at half the price of second class (or a dog day pass).
  • Dogs must stay under the seat.
  • Leash laws apply, and larger dogs should wear a muzzle, especially on trains and ships during the route.
  • Guide dogs for the blind and assistance dogs always travel free of charge and without restrictions.

Important information
  • You need a 1st class seat reservation for this trip on the panoramic train. On the boat, you can travel without a reservation.
  • Boat departure from Lucerne: 11:12 / Train departure from Flüelen: 14:09
  • Train departure from Lugano: 9:18 / Boat departure from Flüelen: 12:00
  • With the GA or Swiss Travel Pass in 1st class, you travel for free. If you have a GA or Swiss Travel Pass for 2nd class, you need to upgrade for the section between Flüelen and Lugano.
  • Check the timetable on the travel day via the SBB website or app. Tickets are non-refundable if you miss the boat or train.
