Description

Take the underground funicular up to Sunnegga, then continue by cable car to Blauherd. This is where the approximately 5-hour circular hike begins, taking you to Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee and Leisee. Each of the five mountain lakes has its own shape and colour. Leisee is a popular swimming lake.

You can see the Matterhorn reflected in three of the five lakes, provided it isn’t hidden by clouds and the water is calm. The beautiful natural surroundings, with towering mountains in the background, offer plenty more great photo opportunities. In the afternoon, take the funicular back to Zermatt.

You may be very hungry by the time you get back to Zermatt after the hike. Near the railway station, you’ll find Restaurant Rosstal, which opens daily at 16:00. There’s room for 50 guests across two floors to enjoy specialities from the Alpine region. The particularly rustic atmosphere is sure to make you want to stay a little longer.
