Mountain Race Küssnacht - Seebodenalp
Since 2005, every second year in August or September, there has been a mountain race with historic motorcycles. This event pays tribute to the motorcycle races of the 1920s and 1930s that took place here. The race is held on the historic route between Küssnacht and Seebodenalp and is a regularity trial. The motorcyclists must complete two runs and try to use the same amount of time for each. After the second run, the time difference between the two runs is calculated. The smallest time difference wins. Around 300 motorcyclists from all over Europe take part.
Getting to Seebodenalp
Seebodenalp is part of the Schwyzer Alps and is located in Central Switzerland on the slopes of the Rigi massif above Küssnacht. You can easily get to this place from Lucerne or Zurich.
Public Transport
You can conveniently reach the cable car to Seebodenalp by public transport. Its valley station is right next to the bus stop Küssnacht am Rigi. From Lucerne, it takes about 45 minutes by train. From Zurich, take the train heading towards Lucerne and change at Rotkreuz. Altogether, you’ll need about 70 to 75 minutes.
By Car
By car, you can easily access Seebodenalp via Küssnacht. The road is open to traffic and there are plenty of paid parking spaces available on the alp. You don’t have to worry about time restrictions, as the parking lot is open 24/7. If you still prefer to take the cable car, there’s a limited number of parking spaces available at the valley station. From Lucerne, take Route 2 and you’ll be in Küssnacht in less than half an hour. From Zurich, you can reach the valley station in just over half an hour via the A4 motorway.
