Description

The boat trip between Lucerne and Brunnen is one of the most stunning routes on Lake Lucerne. The journey takes you through fjord-like arms of the lake, past steep rock faces, idyllic bays, and picturesque villages.

While on board, enjoy views of mountain peaks, crystal-clear water, and numerous sights along the shoreline.

Shortly after leaving Lucerne, the boat passes the magnificent Meggenhorn Castle, situated directly on the lakeshore. Weggis and Vitznau are charming lakeside towns at the foot of Rigi. In Vitznau, you can connect to the cog railway to Rigi Kulm.

Gersau is known as the Riviera of Lake Lucerne because of its mild climate. In Treib, you can take the funicular railway to Seelisberg. Nearby is the legendary Rütli meadow, considered the cradle of Switzerland.

In Brunnen, you will find the Swiss Knife Valley Visitor Center, where you can learn everything about the famous Swiss Army Knife.

Stops along the way:

  • Lucerne (Pier 1)
  • Museum of Transport - Lido
  • Hertenstein (Lake)
  • Weggis (Pier 2)
  • Vitznau
  • Beckenried (Lake)
  • Gersau (Lake)
  • Treib
  • Brunnen (Lake)

Traveling with wheelchair or stroller

  • All boats have a low-floor access (NF)
  • Staff assist wheelchair users (if needed) at all docks for boarding
  • If necessary, contact swisspass.ch/handicap or the Handicap Contact Center daily from 5:00 to 24:00 at 0800 007 102, at least one hour before departure.

Traveling with a dog

  • Small dogs up to 30 cm are free of charge if kept in a transport container throughout the journey. The container must be placed under your seat.
  • Dogs without a container and all dogs taller than 30 cm at the shoulder need a valid dog ticket: half the price of second class or the minimum fare (dog day pass, dog pass). They must stay under your seat so as not to block the passage for other passengers.

Swiss Activities Tip

From Treib, a funicular railway called Treib-Seelisberg operates. It takes you up to the idyllic mountain village of Seelisberg in just a few minutes. From Seelisberg, you can hike on foot to the Rütli, known as the birthplace of Swiss history. It’s about a kilometre away.
