Basel Christmas Market 2026

The Basel Christmas market is the largest in Switzerland. From 26 November to 23 December 2026 the stalls stand on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, daily from 11:00 to 20:30. In addition there are the new Basler Wienachtsdorf on Theaterplatz, open until 3 January 2027, and the Adväntsgass in Kleinbasel. In 2021 «European Best Destinations» chose the market as the best in Europe, and in 2026 it received the «Excellent European Christmas Market» award.

Münsterplatz in front of Basel Minster · since 2011
Under trees with glowing snow globes, the stalls offer goods, food and drinks. The fairy-tale forest of the Robi-Spiel-Aktionen is the destination for families.

Christmas tree decorations, gifts and food stalls around the Barfüsserkirche. Gifts are made by hand at the candle dipping.

Basler Wienachtsdorf
Theaterplatz to the Elisabethenkirche · since 2026 · around 40 huts
Around 40 huts with local design and crafts, and the exhibitors change every week. It is the only Basel market that stays open over Christmas and New Year.

The fairy-tale forest is open from 13:30 on weekdays and from 11:00 at weekends.
After Christmas
Only the Basler Wienachtsdorf stays open until 3 January 2027.
Without a car
From Basel SBB station by tram to Barfüsserplatz, then five minutes on foot to the Minster.
How to get there
- From the «Barfüsserplatz» tram stop, about 5 minutes' walk uphill to the Minster.
- Tram to the «Barfüsserplatz» stop; the market is right on the square.
- Just under 10 minutes' walk from Basel SBB station; the «Kirschgarten», «Theater» and «Bankverein» tram stops are a few steps away.
- Tram to the «Rheingasse» stop on Greifengasse; the lane begins right there.
