Blatten im Lötschental

Blatten in the Lötschental is the highest village of this valley in the Upper Valais. It is located at 1542 meters above sea level and consists of characteristic Valais wooden houses with roofs made of stone slabs. Since the village is part of the Jungfrau Aletsch Bietschhorn mountain region, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the end of the Lötschen valley lies the Langgletscher glacier, from which the Lonza River springs. Between Blatten and the Ferden reservoir, the river becomes a rapid and difficult white water. In winter, the Lötschental is a popular area for cross-country skiing.
