Sierre
Sierre is located among vineyards in Valais and is also known as the wine capital of Switzerland. The town, also called Sierre in German, is very spoiled by the sun and is known for its mild climate. The town, spread over 6 hills, lies largely on the banks of the Rhone River in the beautiful Rhone Valley. The 6 hills are said to have been formed as early as 16,000 BC, when the Rhone glacier receded. and caused the rock fall of the Varneralp. The Romans are said to have called Sierre the "city of 100 hills". Many artists live in Sierre. Rainer Maria Rilke also lived here. Besides the Rilke Museum, a Valais Wine Museum is definitely worth seeing.
