About this place
The botanical garden of the Canton of Ticino is on the island of San Pancrazio in the Langensee. Its history began in 1885 with Antoinette de Saint-Léger; since 2020 it has belonged to the Canton of Ticino. On around 2.5 ha, thanks to the insubrian climate with mild temperatures and abundant rainfall, around 2000 plant species thrive, especially from the subtropics and the world’s five Mediterranean regions: the Mediterranean region, the Cape region in South Africa, the Californian coast, Western Australia and central Chile.
