The Bernina Express Bus connects Ticino with Valtellina and offers a comfortable journey between Lugano and Tirano. On the route, you pass through stunning landscapes, travel along Lake Como, and through the Alpine mountain range.
The trip begins in Lugano or Tirano and takes you through the picturesque Mendrisiotto, passing small Italian towns like Chiavenna. Experience the transition from Mediterranean climate to high Alpine mountain scenery. In Tirano, you'll connect to the Bernina Express panoramic train. This train runs between Tirano and St. Moritz or Chur. If you want to travel the entire Bernina Express between Chur or St. Moritz and Lugano, you must purchase a separate ticket and seat reservation for the panoramic train.
Traveling with Dogs
- Small dogs (up to 30 cm shoulder height, in a transport box or suitable container) travel free.
- Larger dogs (over 30 cm shoulder height) require a dog ticket at half the price of second class.
- No reservation needed for dogs.
- Leash and muzzles required: As is standard on Swiss buses, dogs must be leashed; for larger dogs, muzzles may be required, especially to consider other passengers.
- Assistance dogs can always travel free of charge and without restrictions.

Very small bus compared to a FLIX bus. We expected more for the price as it felt a bit cramped with no overheads and no toilet. The bus driver was very nice.
