Silvaplana is a well-known vacation resort in the Upper Engadine at 1815 m above sea level, situated directly on Lake Silvaplana. This lake is the middle one of the three Upper Engadine lakes. The Maloja wind comes up regularly in the afternoon at the lake and creates optimal conditions for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Surlej is the name of a district of Silvaplana south of the Inn River, where the castle Crap da Sass, built in 1904, stands directly on the lakeshore. Silvaplana is located in the Inn Valley at the junction of the Inn and Julier Passes. The local mountain is Piz Corvatsch, which can be reached by mountain railroads and is also very popular with paragliders. (Photo: Switzerland Tourism, Stefan Gruenig)
