Admittedly: from the Rheinsprung at the Oberalp Pass to Chur, the route is quite a leg-burner. But after the “Grand Canyon of Switzerland”, it eases off: you relax along idyllic riverbanks and in pretty little towns, admire the dramatic Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen, and after 424 varied kilometres you reach Basel’s Rhine harbour, which stirs up a longing to travel.
