Description
Discover the exhibition "Emergence of Switzerland" at the Forum of Swiss History in Schwyz and embark on an unforgettable journey back to the Middle Ages. Immerse yourself in history with virtual guides, multimedia stations, and unique historical artifacts. Explore the interactive path and learn about the fascinating founding story of the Old Confederation.
Along the way, you will meet proud knights, daring mule drivers, and rebellious Confederates. At the end, you can dress up as a knight or noble lady and capture the moment with a photo.
The exhibition focuses on the founding and early development of the Swiss Confederation from the 12th to the 14th century. It is designed as a sensory adventure that captivates both kids and adults alike.
The extraordinary scenography across three floors makes your visit a memorable experience. No nation has existed forever, and Switzerland is no exception. With over 700 years of history, the origins of the Swiss Confederation are still a topic of heated debate. When, where, and how did the history of Switzerland begin? These are just a few of the exciting questions that this permanent exhibition at the Forum of Swiss History in Schwyz addresses.

about the Schwyz forum
The Forum of Swiss History Schwyz opened in 1995 and serves as the home of the Swiss National Museum in central Switzerland. Once a storage place for grain and later for arms, today it houses one of the most significant cultural history museums in the Alpine region.
From the outside, the museum presents itself as a baroque granary and armory built in 1711; inside, you will be enchanted by the modern and spacious architecture.
The Forum of Swiss History Schwyz is both a contemporary history museum and a place for encounters and experiences of cultural history.
In the three upper floors, the museum focuses on the time before the establishment of the old Confederation in the Middle Ages. The regularly changing exhibitions on the lower level hold great significance for the region and central Switzerland. The temporary exhibitions explore and present more current topics. You'll also find a small museum shop here.
Swiss Activity Tip
After visiting the museum, we recommend taking a short trip to Stoos. You can reach it by bus and cogwheel railway in just 20 minutes.
