Lucerne Christmas Market 2026

In Lucerne the market season begins on 20 November 2026 with RUDOLFS Weihnacht in the Inseli-Park by the KKL, open until 23 December, Mon–Sat 11:00–22:00, Sun 11:00–20:00. From 3 to 21 December the Lozärner Wiehnachtsmärt with around 70 stalls stands on Franziskanerplatz, daily from 11:00. On the Franziskanerbrunnen stands an Advent wreath more than three metres in diameter, the largest in Central Switzerland according to the organiser. The craft market on the Weinmarkt, Venite on Kapellplatz and the market in the Hotel Schweizerhof, on three Advent Sundays, run for shorter periods.

Lozärner Wiehnachtsmärt
Franziskanerplatz by the Franziskanerkirche (Kleinstadt) · around 70 stalls
Around 70 stalls around the Franziskanerbrunnen offer gifts, crafts, mulled wine, punch, cream toffees and wood-fired bread. On the fountain stands an Advent wreath with four candles a metre high, and choirs and brass players perform almost every day.

Inseli-Park on the lake by the KKL · more than 50 huts, bars and food trucks
More than 50 huts, bars and food trucks on the lakeshore next to the KKL. The fondue chalet serves cheese fondue and wine, the music chalet has DJ sets in the evening, and there are also stilt walkers and fire shows. Children listen to fairy tales in the yurt.

Weinmarkt in the old town
On the Weinmarkt, craftspeople sell only what they have made themselves, and food is not included. Otherwise the market is held once a month, in December on six days.

Venite Weihnachtsmarkt
Kapellplatz by the Kapellbrücke
At the «Internationales Weihnachtsforum» on Kapellplatz, several countries present themselves with specialities, according to Luzern Tourismus including Finland, Vietnam, Italy and Switzerland. There are concerts in the Peterskapelle and on the square in front of it.
Weihnachtsmarkt am Hof
At the Hofkirche St. Leodegar
A one-day neighbourhood market at the foot of the Hofkirche: market stalls, food and drink, live music, a film screening and a tour of the church. It is run by the St. Leodegar parish and businesses from the Hofquartier.

Schweizerhof-Weihnachtsmarkt
Hotel Schweizerhof Lucerne, Zeugheersaal and Bringolfsaal · around 60 exhibitors
On three Advent Sundays, around 60 exhibitors in the historic Zeugheersaal and Bringolfsaal of the Hotel Schweizerhof sell handmade goods and regional specialities. You can eat in the hotel bar or in the Brasserie VICO.

Bruchquartier
In the Bruchquartier, away from the shopping streets, small shops open with handmade gifts, and there is also a market of vintage finds and a children's programme. An electric tuk-tuk shuttles between the shops and stalls.

Lozärner Adväntseröffnig
Start of Advent on Saturday 21 November 2026 at 17:00 on Europaplatz: live music, ice-skating shows, a St Nicholas group, the Christmas Train and, as the highlight, the lighting of the big Christmas tree. Free admission.

The Weihnachtsbeleuchtung Luzern association decorates the lanes, squares and bridges of the city centre, including the crown lights on the Reussbrücke. In 2025 the lights were switched on at the Advent opening; the 2026 switch-on date has not yet been published.

Eight large lanterns shaped like the Water Tower accompany the walk from Schwanenplatz along the Quai to the Verkehrshaus-Lido boat station; on Advent Sundays, weather permitting, 80 candle lanterns are added. 2026 dates not yet published.

Gift stalls only from 14:00
At RUDOLFS Weihnacht the stalls with gifts do not open until 14:00 Mon–Fri, and the fondue chalet at 17:00.
Crafts on six days only
The craft market on the Weinmarkt is open on 5, 8, 12, 13, 19 and 20 December, Saturdays 08:00–17:00, otherwise 10:00–18:00.
Advent opening on 21 November
At 17:00 on Europaplatz: live music, ice-skating shows and the lighting of the big Christmas tree. Free admission.

The Inseli-Park is 5 minutes' walk from Lucerne station, Franziskanerplatz and Weinmarkt each about 10 minutes.
