Description
The Swiss Half Fare Card may only be purchased by persons who have their permanent residence outside Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein. The card entitles you to buy tickets for train, bus, boat and most mountain railroads at a price of 50%. You can download the validity area on this card as PDF.
Children under 6 years of age generally travel for free. Children under 16 must be registered as passengers when purchasing the Swiss Half Fare Card. You will then receive the free Swiss Family Card and can let your children travel with you free of charge. Dogs and possibly a bicycle are also registered with the booking.
Travelling in a wheelchair
- On the ships of the Great Lakes, access to the main deck is possible for "normal-sized" wheelchairs in the majority of cases.
- There are still stations that are not yet designed to be barrier-free.
- You can request free boarding and disembarking assistance from the "SBB Call Center Handicap" up to 24 hours in advance.
- Not all mountain railroads have yet been converted to the point where they can take wheelchairs. Often, they can only be taken along when folded. In any case, you should ask the operator of the planned mountain railroad in advance.

I ordered and paid for 2 Cards, requesting September coverage. I was issued tickets with a 15 August start date. I won’t even be in Switzerland then. I have tried for hours to get the start date changed, sodnt ages with AI chat, have still not heard back from the support team. Very unhelpful communication, and my problem is still unresolved. It should be an easy thing to change the start date! And I have paid CHF 315.

The family card should be better highlighted when ordering the card so it comes with it. We had to pay for 4 children to the Pilatus summit that we weren’t planning on.
