The 1650 meter high Eiger North Face is also nicknamed the "Eiger Murder Wall", as it was long considered impregnable. It cost the lives of quite a few daredevil mountaineers and in 1936 it was even briefly forbidden to climb the Eiger North Face. However, this did not deter the enthusiastic climbers and in 1938 two Austrians succeeded in conquering the "Mordwand"
