The Viamala-Schlucht at a glance The Viamala-Schlucht lies between Thusis and Zillis in Graubünden. Glacial ice and the Hinterrhein have carved this gorge, up to 300 metres deep, into the rock over thousands of years. The name means «bad way» in Romansh and recalls the times when muleteers and travellers feared the narrow passage on the way to the Alpine passes.
