This day hike takes you across the alpine landscape at the foot of the deep-blue Walensee up to an alp. Your guide accompanies you and shares plenty of information and anecdotes about Swiss Alpine farming and Swiss traditions.
Walensee lies in the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus, and due to its location right in the valley it is one of the coldest large lakes in Switzerland. On both sides of the lake, steep slopes rise up to 1000 metres high. Your route winds along one of these slopes and promises fantastic views down into the depths!
You can expect a day hike along the slopes of the beautiful Walensee with a local, professional guide from Zurich! In Zurich's main train station hall, right at the marked meeting point, you'll meet your guide. You'll travel by train toward Glarus and St. Gallen.
During a one-hour train ride you can enjoy the views of the stunning Swiss countryside and watch the cow pastures, lakes, mountains and forests glide by. A cosy cable car ride will finally take you to over 1,300 m above sea level.
Once at the top you can grab a refreshment at the mountain cafe before the hike begins.
The route takes you along mountain paths and narrow Alpine roads, past extensive alps and through spruce and mountain pine forests. If you feel like it, you can grill a sausage at a typically Swiss grill spot. The path leads uphill and you reach the Alp Furgglen. Here you witness the intensive management of Swiss Alps during the summer, and you can watch the cows grazing peacefully. Take a final breath of the mountain air and, before the descent, enjoy the magnificent view once more.
