Rigi round trip by boat and train from Lucerne, self-guided

Enjoy a full day on Rigi, travelling there via the enchanting Lake Lucerne. This unique circular tour lets you experience everything the Queen of the Mountains has to offer.

Start your trip independently in Lucerne with a relaxing boat trip across beautiful Lake Lucerne to Vitznau. To make sure you have enough time on Rigi, we recommend boarding the boat that departs Lucerne at 09:12. Travel all the way to Vitznau.

From Vitznau, the Rigi Railway takes you up to the Queen of the Mountains. Trains run hourly on Europe's oldest cogwheel railway from Vitznau to Rigi Kulm. You can transfer directly from the boat to the mountain railway.

After a short climb, you'll reach your main destination at around 11:00: the summit of Rigi Kulm. Enjoy a 360° panorama from the viewpoint. You might even spot all 13 lakes visible from the summit…

Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants on Rigi, or bring along a picnic and eat whenever you like.

How about a short walk afterwards? For example, the Flower Trail takes you from Restaurant Lok 7 via Staffelhöhe to the Känzeli viewpoint. From there, you can continue to Rigi Kaltbad.

In the afternoon, take the cogwheel railway back to Vitznau or the cable car to Weggis. From there, enjoy a relaxing boat trip back to Lucerne.
