Description
You start in Zurich and take the train along the historic Gotthard route towards Ticino. Along the way, you'll enjoy alpine panoramas, spiral tunnels, and experience the transition from the alpine north to the Mediterranean south.
In Bellinzona, take a stroll through the old town with its Italian charm and visit one of the UNESCO fortresses. Then, reach a typical stone village near Arcegno, featuring narrow alleys, stone houses, and chestnut groves.
Here, you have the chance to savour regional dishes and local specialties in a rustic grotto. To finish, wander along the lakeside promenade in Ascona by Lake Maggiore, with its palm trees and colourful houses.
The return journey takes you comfortably back to Zurich through the Gotthard Base Tunnel in no time.
