Sobre este local

A centuries-old tradition that draws a large crowd of visitors every second Sunday in October. Since 1778, St. Urban’s day of «Kirchweihe» has always taken place on the second Sunday in October. Saint Urban I is especially revered in wine-growing regions, above all in Franconia, Baden, Austria and Alsace. The reason is that winegrowers finish working the vineyards at the time of Urban’s feast day: „If Urban’s day brings sunshine, it promises plenty of good wine“. Over time, the patronal festival (Kirchweihe) has increasingly become a secular event. The Kilbi has become the very symbol of the folk festival, an autumn celebration in which thanksgiving for the harvest has also always played a quiet role. The St. Urban Kilbi is also something like an “ecumenical meeting”, because there is probably no second event of this size and significance that radiates so strongly into the so-called Reformed areas as well (Bernese Oberaargau and Aargau). For many families in the cantons of Lucerne and Solothurn, as well as in the Oberaargau region and the district of Zofingen, it has always been part of the annual calendar to visit the Klosterkilbi. The Klosterkilbi St. Urban stretches from St. Urban in Lucerne, municipality of Pfaffnau, into the canton of Bern to Roggwil. Various clubs from the two municipalities provide entertainment until the early hours over these three days. On the Lucerne side, the Kilbi starts at the Luna Park and the large festival tent of the St. Urban Music Society and ends on Roggwil soil at the Farmer Rock Schüür. Early on Sunday morning, the many market traders take over the cantonal road in St. Urban from the Klosterbäckerei and St. Urbanstrasse in Roggwil so that, shortly afterwards, thousands of people - young and old - can stream through the market stalls set up along both sides of the road.
