Certificate of competence (SKN) for horse keeping proEqui The well-being of animals can be protected by properly training the people who handle them or are responsible for them. The new Animal Protection Ordinance therefore places particular emphasis on the training of animal keepers. This also applies to keeping horses. In principle, anyone who has been newly responsible for keeping several horses since 1 September 2008 must have the required training. Anyone who keeps more than 5 horses must be able to produce a certificate of competence for horse keepers. Our training is recognised by the FSVO (formerly BVET) (BVET licence number 09/0008) and equQua certified. Content According to Ordinance 455.109.1, Art. 32: -Legal basis -Species-specific needs of the horse -Animal care -Feeding -Organisation of keeping -Rearing foals Requirement interest in keeping horses and willingness to learn something new Learning objectives Through high-quality training measures, no more animal welfare breaches. According to Ordinance 455.109.1, Art. 30: -The course participant names the principles of animal-friendly keeping -The participant names the relevant animal protection laws and lists articles of the legislation describing the animal welfare criteria for horses. -The participant names the species-specific basic needs of the horse. -The participant lists the tasks involved in animal care and names the requirements. -The participant names the needs and criteria of feeding. -The participant explains the basics of horse keeping in relation to species-appropriate keeping. -The participant names the needs of a foal from birth to weaning. Target group Horse keepers, leisure riders, professional riders, drivers (carriage), horse owners, breeders, sportspeople, stable managers, prospective apprentices (e.g. TPA) etc. For horse keepers with 5 or more horses, the course is mandatory according to Animal Protection Ordinance, TSchV Art. 31. Participants are admitted from the age of 12. Note The certificate of competence (SKN) from proEqui is also the basic module of proEqui’s “profession-independent vocational training for horse keepers” (FBA), which is also recognised by the FSVO.
