The exhibition format «New Perspectives – Camera Arts goes Kornhausforum» is a partnership between Kornhausforum Bern and the «Camera Arts» BA at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Design Film Kunst. Selected graduates from the previous year can present their photographic work in Bern for the first time to a wider audience in an institutional setting. In this way, Kornhausforum Bern also wants to give emerging photographers a professional public platform while bringing exciting, young positions that are in tune with the times into its programme. This year’s artists Jiyan Céline Schmidiger and nedia boutouchent want their works in the exhibition «Poetics of Deconstruction: I Kiss You Today For Tomorrow and Our Gaze Is Not Yours To Claim» to invite visitors to reflect on Western perspectives. In doing so, they question dominant imperial portrayals and counter them with a more pluralistic view. Stories of marginalised and oppressed people often remain hidden from general perception — by which the Central European, Western perspective is meant. nedia boutouchent and Jiyan Céline Schmidiger each explore different aspects of lived experiences of marginalisation, stigmatisation and systemic oppression artistically. Their work gives rise to a dense, mystical and poetic visual world. Visitors can immerse themselves in inner spaces of reflection in the exhibition and relate their own perspectives to those of Jiyan Céline Schmidiger and nedia boutouchent.
