matali crasset. Égards obliques
À propos de ce lieu
matali crasset is a designer. She creates objects. But she does not want to encourage our consumption; on the contrary, she wants to “repair” our societies and revive our dialogue with the environment. For her, thinking about living space means above all making return an essential gesture: designing architectures and ways of living that are able to give the Earth back some of what we receive from it. Her approach rests on a simple principle: shifting our gaze. A step to the side can help question our ways of thinking and, accordingly, take all living beings into account. Writing supports her work and creates space for imaginative exploration, where she invents new forms of living. With tapestries, drawings and stories, she imagines communities that know how to adapt to climatic, social and political crises. In this way, she paves the way for other stories: ecotopias in which new forms of life on Earth emerge. According to the stance she has chosen, matali crasset is not an artist, but a designer who pays careful attention to her environment. She prefers recycling and sources her products from local craftspeople, with whom she works systematically. By targeting our everyday behaviour, she creates jolts that can concretely change our relationship with the world. The French designer matali crasset was born in 1965. She lives and works in Paris.
