Description

This taster weekend aims to get you closer to touring in the backcountry. With theory sessions, plenty of training in the field, and a small application tour amidst the Churfirsten, you'll gain a foundation for better assessing avalanche situations. You'll also learn how to search efficiently in a group in case of an avalanche accident.

What you've learned can be realistically applied during guided ski, splitboard, or snowshoe tours.

Training Goals

  • Getting to know ski, splitboard, or snowshoe tours
  • Handling touring skis, splitboard, and bindings
  • Putting on skins
  • Climbing with skins
  • Avalanche transceiver (LVS training)
  • Search exercises
  • Descending in deep snow
  • Basic knowledge of avalanche science

Requirements:

  • Participants: 4-15 people
  • No prior ski touring or snowshoeing experience required
  • No alpine technical skills required
  • Confident skiing or snowboarding on black slopes
  • Fitness for 800 - 1000hm ascent

Program

1. Tag:

  • Arrival at the starting point
  • Level assessment, goals, and expectations
  • Introduction to skiing, splitboarding, or snowshoeing tours
  • Getting ready and ascent to the practice area
  • Tour according to the conditions with theory
  • Assessing hazards
  • Avalanche transceiver exercises
  • Wildlife protection zones
  • Planning the tour for the next day

2. Tag - Tour according to the conditions with theory:

  • Recognizing avalanche situations
  • Estimating and measuring slope inclination
  • Route selection
  • Protecting flora and fauna

  • Requirements: Safe skiing/snowboarding on black runs, fitness for 800-1000 vertical meters of ascent
  • An additional hiking guide will be with the snowshoe group. This way, all participants will be offered an ideal practical tour.
