Schwyz

Schwyz is the capital of the canton of Schwyz. It also includes the districts of Rickenbach, Seeven and Ibach. The village square of Schwyz is situated at 516 m above sea level between Lake Lucerne and Lake Lauerz. From Schwyz the steepest funicular in Switzerland runs to the car-free village of Stoos. Schwyz lies at the foot of the Mythen mountain massif on the southern slope. The Grosse Mythen and the Kleine Mythen are two rock pyramids above the valley basin. They are a striking feature and can be recognized from afar. Hikers like to take the Gross Mythen as their destination.
