Description

The funicular goes from Linthal to the mountain station in Braunwald in about seven minutes. The train can carry up to 114 people in one trip.

  • Valley station: Linthal (647 m a.s.l.)
  • Mountain station: Braunwald (1254 m a.s.l.)

Braunwald is a car-free village and is known as a sun terrace. In the north of the village, you can find the Eggstöcke, which has a three-part via ferrata. In winter, you have access to the snow-safe ski area from Braunwald. The Ortstock, a double summit of the Glarus Alps, is considered the local mountain of Braunwald.

Swiss Activities Tip

If you're on vacation in Braunwald for several days, you can transport your luggage at low prices from Linthal with the funicular. The luggage drop-off is at the valley station to the right of the main entrance.

Suddenly stopped while driving. That made me feel a bit uneasy. Thoughts crossed my mind about whether I should press the emergency button before we sped backward again. Apologies came only later. But anything can happen when you're rushing! I'd rather take matters into my own hands than rely on others!

It would work well if the reader could scan the QR code properly. The employee downstairs couldn’t help, so we kept trying repeatedly until it finally worked. The same happened upstairs on the return trip, but at the checkout there was also a barrier, and that worked immediately. However, this means you have to pass through the cashier area. There were other passengers who had the same issue.
