Description

Hike in this snowshoe tour under the imposing Eiger north face and marvel at 1800 m high rock and ice walls. You will learn exciting stories about the first ascent of this massive mountain face

You can expect a full-day snowshoe tour in a group under the Eiger north face!

Meeting point: Grindelwald.

In Grindelwald you will be greeted by your mountain guide in front of the outdoor store and café.

Preparation: Introduction and equipment.

Before the start you will get a short introduction. If necessary, you will be equipped with the missing material by your mountain guide.

You go: with the Eiger Express.

Together you go to the train station and buy a ticket for the Eiger Express to the Eiger Glacier. With this cable car, which opened in 2020, you will travel together to the Eiger Glacier station. By the way, this is the last station before the Jungfraujoch.

You see: the Eiger north face.

The Eiger North Face has an eventful history behind it. The almost 1800 m high rock face on the north side of the Eiger was the scene of a tragic event in 1938. During a photo stop, your mountain guide will tell you what the death bivouac is all about and why the Hinterstoisserqergang was decisive

Activity: Snowshoe hike.

During the first 3 hours you will hike under the impressive Eiger north face up to Alpiglen, where you can warm up in the restaurant. This first part of the tour is 5 km long and you will overcome 800 meters of altitude.

From here the tour continues for two more hours and 4 km over 700 vertical meters to Grindelwald Grund. If you want to skip this second part, you have the possibility to take the train from Alpiglen directly back to Grindelwald.

Return journey: Grindelwald.

The tour ends again in Grindelwald. Either you arrive by train from Alpiglen or you hike back to the starting point.

Practical information:

  • For groups of 4-6 people
  • Suitable for: inexperienced snowshoe hikers
  • Required: certain fitness level
