Skydive Interlaken - why you shouldn't miss it
Are you in the mood for action and adrenaline? Do you want to step out of your comfort zone or just try something new?
Then a parachute jump from a helicopter in Interlaken is just the thing for you. Experience Interlaken from over 4000 m above sea level in free fall.
Maybe you have a few questions swirling around in your head before your first jump. That’s why I’ll walk you through my first parachute jump step by step. I hope this answers your questions.
First things first: you don’t have to worry!
It was also my first time, and it was definitely worth it. The feeling of flying towards the ground in free fall at speeds of up to 200 km/h is breathtaking. The provider Skydive Interlaken is very professional and gave me a sense of security from start to finish.
Michael, my jump master, was incredibly experienced and has completed over 13,000 parachute jumps.
But let's take it step by step.
Getting to Skydive Interlaken and Instructions
The Skydive Interlaken location in Wilderswil is just a 10-minute ride from Interlaken by postbus. From the Wilderswil train station, there’s about a 10-minute walk to Mittelweg 11, where the Skydive Interlaken base is located. Alternatively, guests can take advantage of a free shuttle bus pick-up in Interlaken.
At the base, we were greeted warmly and could sign the registration for the parachute jump. This process took less than five minutes. Since we had already booked and paid for our skydive in advance, we could get started right away.
Booking a parachute jump:
After that, we dropped off our luggage, emptied our pants and jacket pockets, and put on the jumpsuit. By "we," I mean Dennis, my colleague, who also wanted to experience his first skydive, and me.
Once dressed and feeling a bit nervous, we went through the instructions for the parachute jump with a jump master. He explained how to enter and exit the helicopter, how to behave during free fall, and how the landing would take place at the end.
Leon’s tip: You can wear the comfortable jumpsuit over your clothes. Depending on the weather, you might want to wear a sweater or thermal shirt underneath. For us, a T-shirt under the jumpsuit was enough at around 20 °C.

Transfer to the Airport
Following the instructions, a VW bus took us from Wilderswil to the helicopter airfield. The ride lasted about 15 minutes. Our two jump masters, Michael and Lorenzo, were with us. Dennis got to jump with the Italian Lorenzo, while I had the pleasure of jumping with Michael from South Africa. Michael has over 13,000 skydives under his belt, which put me at ease.
When we arrived at the airfield, we had to wait 10 minutes for our helicopter to return from its last flight. Meanwhile, Dennis and I discussed who would jump first.
We agreed that Dennis would go first.
Then the moment arrived. The helicopter returned, and our skydive was getting closer. Our tandem masters checked our gear again and properly suited us up for the jump.
Leon’s Tip: Jumping second gives you an extra adrenaline kick because you get to see your friend fall out of the helicopter.

Helicopter tour
Michael and I were the first to board the helicopter. Dennis and Lorenzo followed us immediately. It was pretty cramped in the helicopter with four of us, but we had completely different things on our minds at this point
We took off and flew through the Lütschen valley to the ridge of the Schynigen Platte. The view from the helicopter was already an absolute highlight. We saw Interlaken, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun and the triumvirate with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the background
Slowly we reached the drop height where the helicopter hovered in place. Dennis and I knew what was in store for us now. The door of the helicopter was open and the adrenaline shot into our blood
Of course, our nervousness also reached the highest level by then
Leon's Tip: Jumping out of a helicopter has a big advantage. The helicopter can hover in the air and therefore there is no stress during the jump. So if you want to take a few seconds, it's not a problem in this case.

Skydive
Dennis and Lorenzo moved from their seat in the helicopter to the skid. And there they stood
At 4'000 m above sea level in the air above Interlaken
Just before the jump
My adrenaline and nervousness rose to infinity just by watching this. Dennis took a deep breath and jumped. Within seconds the 1.80 m tall man disappeared together with Lorenzo. Several times they turned around their own axis during the free fall.
Now it was my turn
Michael instructed me to walk towards the skid of the helicopter. The view was indescribable. Standing there felt surreal to me. Michael had mentioned earlier that the most important thing was to just enjoy the skydive. I followed his advice and started laughing soon after the jump
My sense of time during 45 seconds in freefall was quite distorted. To be honest, I couldn't really perceive the view at all. However, this changed as soon as Michael pulled the parachute and we switched from freefall to paragliding.
During the paragliding flight I could then perceive the beautiful landscape around Interlaken. Still overwhelmed by the parachute jump, I was allowed to steer the paraglider and navigate us towards the company building in Wilderswil.
Shortly before landing, Michael mentioned again that I should stretch my legs for the landing. Perfectly landed, and still full of adrenaline, the joy about my first skydive was hard to miss

The feeling after the skydive
Dennis, who had landed next to me before, looked overjoyed. We hugged each other and could hardly believe the past 15 min of our lives
For both of us it was clear: That was incredible!
Back at the base of Skydive Interlaken we were allowed to watch our shots in the helicopter, freefall and paragliding after only a few minutes
The whole experience felt more and more real
Dennis and I sat there and were totally happy and fulfilled. Maybe also a little proud that we had dared to do it. For both of us it was one of the greatest experiences ever.

Skydiving in Interlaken is definitely something we recommend. It's a unique experience that you won't forget anytime soon. It's completely safe and is conducted by highly professional tandem masters.

Frequently asked questions
Skydiving Interlaken · answered by the editorial team
For whom is skydiving suitable?
In principle, anyone can participate in tandem jumping from the age of at least eight years. Sometimes jumps are only allowed from the age of 16. However, written consent from all legal guardians is always a must for minors under 18
Each jumper should be of normal physical fitness and must not weigh more than one hundred kilograms with clothing. You must not have any problems with your back, shoulders or neck, and because of the pressure compensation, your ears must also be healthy. Contact lenses are not a problem
How safe is skydiving?
Safety is the most important thing. Therefore, you will get a short training on the ground about the most important things that await you and that you must pay attention to. This includes the procedure of the jump and practicing the correct posture. You are firmly connected to the tandem master during the jump in your jumpsuit
The parachute is equipped with an automatic opening system during the tandem jump. It opens even if the tandem master cannot do so for some reason. As soon as the rate of descent at a defined altitude (usually 225 meters above ground) exceeds a preset value, the reserve is released. The failure of both parachutes is very unlikely
What is the general procedure for skydiving?
The jump usually takes place from 4000 meters above sea level and already during the approach you have a great view of the landscape and the alpine massif. Switzerland is well suited for skydiving all year round. In total you should plan half a day. The free fall takes about 45 to 50 seconds. You will reach a speed of about 200 km/h. Then the parachute is opened and after about six minutes of parachute flight you land safely on the ground
Often additional passenger seats in the plane (without jump) can be booked and spectators are also welcome on the ground. In addition to tandem jumps, solo jumps are also offered as first jumps and AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) training in several levels.
How did skydiving originate in Switzerland?
The first idea came from Leonardo da Vinci, but it remained at first. The first parachute jump then took place in France in the 18th century, but it was only after the end of the Second World War that parachuting developed further as a sport. Before that, it was common in Switzerland exclusively as a military means of transport for parachute reconnaissance pilots. Skydiving now refers to a sporting parachuting that is performed as an aerial sport.
