In the Grindelwald vacation region, you'll find plenty of options for sledding down the slopes on several groomed sledding paths during the winter. You don’t even have to bring your own sled, as you can rent one at a low cost in the ski areas in Grindelwald and at most mountain stations.

The Jungfrau Region hiking and sledding pass is valid for 1 to 7 days, depending on your preference. With it, you can use all the mountain lifts, public transport, and ski buses in Grindelwald without limits.

The bodmiARENA is located in a sunny spot in the middle of Grindelwald at 1200 m above sea level. This recreational area transforms into a winter sports paradise for visitors and locals alike starting in December. The terrain is designed specifically for beginners and is ideal for newcomers of all ages from 3 years old.

The sledding slope runs down a gently sloping fun hill and is about 150 m long. A conveyor belt brings sledders back to the starting point. Besides sledding, snow tubing is also possible. Families with small children particularly enjoy gathering here. With the day pass for the bodmiARENA, you can have a fun day with your own sled or one that you rent.

If you don't mind a two-and-a-half-hour hike before the sledding run, you can walk from the mountain station Grindelwald First up to Faulhorn at 2,680 m above sea level. This is how you reach the longest sledding track in the world, known as Big Pintenfritz, which is 15 km long.

With the cable car, you can reach the First mountain station from Grindelwald Terminal in just 20 minutes. From First, you can get to Faulhorn via winter hiking trails. There, you'll enjoy a unique panoramic view over large parts of Switzerland.

On the marked sledding path Big Pintenfritz, you sled down towards Bussalp until you finally reach Grindelwald. The ride takes about an hour and covers a total elevation change of 1,600 meters.

On your way to Grindelwald, you'll pass several places to take a break, where you can enjoy a hot drink and warm up with mulled wine and fondue. Options include the Berggasthaus First, the Bergrestaurant Bussalp, Adi’s Skibar Oberjoch, and the Rasthysi. The name Big Pintenfritz is actually a tribute to the legendary innkeeper Fritz Bohren, who once ran the Hotel Bellevue and the Berghotel Faulhorn.

The sledding adventure at the City Run starts on the sunny plateau of Bussalp, which is 1,800 meters high. You can easily reach it by taking one of the yellow Grindelwald buses. After that, the sledding in Grindelwald follows a pathway for about 30 minutes down to the valley at Weidli, along the access road. Just be careful when the yellow buses come your way!

Many sledders can’t get enough of this sledding path in Grindelwald and take the bus back to Bussalp right after reaching the valley. For a snack in between, the Bussalp mountain restaurant has you covered, and for some variety, the adjacent family snow park offers plenty of fun.

The Steintor Bar and the Weidli Bar are also popular stops. Sledders love to relax there after a thrilling ride down the sledding paths in Grindelwald. The City Run is great for families with kids too. A special highlight of sledding in Grindelwald is the evening and night rides, when the snow glitters enticingly in the headlights.

A modern 10-person gondola takes you from the Grindelwald Terminal to the Männlichen mountain station, which is about 2,200 meters high, in just 18 minutes. You can also get to the Männlichen mountain station from Lauterbrunnen by cable car.

Starting from the Männlichen, you’ll sled down a 6 km long, groomed winter hiking path through a magical winter wonderland. This leads you all the way to the Holenstein intermediate station. From there, you can easily take the mountain lift back down to the valley. If the snow conditions are right, you can also continue sledding for the rest of the way.

Along the way, there’s a ski bar where you can enjoy delicious Swiss specialties. There’s also an excellent mountain restaurant at Holenstein. This sledding path in Grindelwald is suitable for both beginners and families with children.

The 4.5 km long sledding trail "Family Run," starting at Bussalp, is perfect for families. It follows the access road all the way to Holzmattenläger.

Between Holzmattenläger and Rasthysi, you’ll need to get off and walk a few times, as the sledding path goes up and down. It gets exciting from Rasthysi to Lochsteinen, the tour's endpoint.

If you're choosing the Family Run with the whole family, make sure to check out the family snow park on Bussalp. An enjoyable stop along the way is also recommended at the Rasthysi Bar.

One of the most famous sledding trails in the Bernese Oberland and thus in the Jungfrau region is the spectacular Eiger Run, which passes right beneath the legendary Eiger North Face. With a gradient of up to 36%, this sledding path in Grindelwald is not for the faint-hearted. Although the overall distance is only about 3.5 km long, it’s full of excitement.

The tour starts at Alpiglen, 1600 m high. You can reach it via the longest continuous cogwheel train in the world, the Wengernalpbahn. The official endpoint after 15 minutes of thrilling rides is in Brandegg. The Eiger Run is exhilarating during the day, but at night, it’s a completely different experience. With the Eiger Run evening ticket, you can ride the mountain railway as many times as you want until 11:00 PM. The Wengernalpbahn runs every half hour.

The mountain houses Alpiglen and Brandegg await you with a hearty meal to replenish the calories burned.

A descent with breathtaking views awaits you on the sledding trails in Grindelwald, running from First at 2168 m.a.s.l. down to the Bort mountain station. There are several options for you to cover the distance of about 700 vertical meters. The shorter version is around 4 km long and starts at the valley station of the Oberjoch chairlift.

The sledding trail marked with purple poles first runs along the ski slope and then branches off towards Schreckfeld. After that, there’s a pleasant, flat section until Egg, which picks up steepness again just before Bort. With good snow conditions, you have the option to continue sledding from Bort all the way down to Grindelwald.

The second version of the sledding path on Grindelwald-First is 9 km long and starts at the Gummihütte by the Bachalpsee. You’ll encounter a stunning Alpine panorama on the flat section just before Waldspitz. From Waldspitz, it goes directly toward Bort. Restaurants along the way include the Bort and Waldspitz mountain restaurants.

Before heading down the most scenic sledding trails in Grindelwald, it’s worth indulging in the adventurous First Cliff Walk. This legendary circular trail is a unique mountain attraction and features a 40 m long single-rope suspension bridge and a 45 m long viewing platform.

If you enjoy sledding at night, you have two options in Grindelwald. The City Run starting from Bussalp is well prepared for night sledding. You can also ride the Eiger Run from Alpiglen to Brandegg as often as you like with the evening ticket.

Bussalp - Night Sledding

Sledding on Bussalp is also very popular at night. The Grindelwald bus runs regularly from Bärenplatz in Grindelwald to Bussalp.

The sledding path is not illuminated at night, so you should bring a good headlamp. The distance from Bussalp to Weidli is about 5.6 km long and takes around 30 minutes. The elevation difference is 560 vertical meters. It’s a total of 8 km down to Grindelwald.

You can also combine night sledding on Bussalp with a fondue experience at the Bussalp mountain restaurant. Individual rides are paid for directly on the bus. Since the bus rides and night sledding are very popular, you may need to expect some waiting times. Therefore, we recommend making a reservation for night sledding along with the fondue experience.

Eiger Run - Night Sledding

The Eiger Run is about 3.5 km long and is not suitable for inexperienced sledders. It goes steeply downhill at the foot of the Eiger North Face. The path from Alpiglen to Brandegg is lit up for night sledding.

The Wengernalpbahn operates additional trains for night sledding to Alpiglen, the starting point for sledding. The trains reach the top from Grindelwald in less than five minutes. The Brandegg mountain restaurant offers fondue after sledding in a cozy gathering. Sledding equipment can be rented from Intersport Grindelwald.
