Description

There is always a risk of avalanches in the mountains in winter. It varies constantly with changing snow and weather conditions. The theory part of this basic course is initially aimed at recognizing the risks when skiing off-piste.

Building on this, you will learn the basics of avalanche prevention. To do this, you will go to a nearby ski area. Together with your coach, you will examine the snow cover and learn how to use the avalanche transceiver (avalanche transceiver). You practise searching for avalanche victims.

Part 2 Practice on site

  • Snowpack: profiles and compression tests
  • Basics of using avalanche transceivers and searching for avalanche victims.

Important information
  • Bring: freeride or touring skis (with skins if needed), ski boots, poles, a small backpack, winter clothing including a hat and gloves, sunglasses/ski goggles, sun cream, a drink and a snack
  • Bring an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe, or rent them from the provider
  • The course starts with indoor theory before heading out into the mountains. The course takes place in Central Valais, depending on snow and weather conditions
  • The course runs with a minimum of 2 participants
