Frequently asked questions
Sled dogs · answered by our editorial team
What is special about a dog sledding trip?
If you let yourself be pulled (wrapped up warmly) in a sled, you can enjoy the surrounding nature in a special way. Such trips are offered in winter on snowy passes like the Col des Mosses and in summer on various glaciers. However, if you want to actively steer a dog sled yourself, that is also possible. Huskies are very patient animals, which you can steer yourself after a short instruction within a guided sled group.
What is a musher?
Musher is the technical term for the person who steers a dog sled team. A musher steers his team by standing on the sled. Steering is done solely by commands that a musher calls out. The lead dog implements these commands.
How many dogs do you need for a sled team?
A sled team can consist of two to twelve Huskies. Such a team is also called a team. Meanwhile, the teams are often harnessed as a double. They are all attached to a central pulling line.
