Description
Your journey starts either in Müstair or Tirano. From Müstair, the postal bus of route 821 initially travels through the Monastery Valley and along the Umbrail Pass. This route is a panoramic express.
At the Stelvio (Stilfser Joch), you have reached 2757 meters above sea level at the second-highest mountain pass in the Alps. The view of the switchbacks descending to Bormio is as stunning as the sight of the mountains.
This direct connection is available only once per day in each direction. Therefore, we recommend not to disembark on this stretch. You can return from Oberengadin or Tirano by the Rhaetian Railway, which runs regularly throughout the day.

Hundreds of motorcyclists gather at Stelvio Pass every year during the first week of July. It is known as the "International Meeting."
Bicycle
Do you want to take your bike on the postal bus? Please note the following regulations:
- Check in the online timetable or app if an R with bike symbol is shown
- In that case, please also purchase a reservation ticket for your bike alongside your regular ticket
Traveling by wheelchair
- Postal buses are generally equipped for the transport of wheelchairs. The door for wheelchair access has an appropriate symbol.
- The postal bus between Müstair and Tirano has an integrated lift that is operated by the driver (no prior booking needed). This is marked as HL in the SBB timetable.
Traveling with Dogs
- Bringing small dogs up to 30 cm is free of charge if they stay in a transport container throughout the journey. This must be tucked under your seat.
- Dogs without a container and all dogs taller than 30 cm at the shoulder require a valid dog ticket: half-price for second class or the minimum fare (dog day ticket, dog pass). They must sit under the seat to avoid blocking the passage for other travellers.
